ABSTRACT

Aims The happiness of employees is an important issue for firms. Researchers have confirmed that productivity of happy employees is higher than unhappy employees. Police as an organization that is responsible for the establishment of order and security in society, needs more than any other organization to have powerful and happy staff. The aim of this study was to compare psychological empowerment effectiveness on happiness in the based on organizational and demographic characteristics.
Instrument & Methods This descriptive-correlational study was performed on all officers of Zahedan, Iran, in the first 6 months of 2016. Using random classification method, 248 samples were selected. Spreitzer psychological empowerment and Oxford happiness questionnaires were used for data collection. Data was analyzed using Spearman correlation test, regression, Kruskal Wallis and U Mann Whithney tests in SPSS 17.
Findings The correlation between 2 indicators of psychological empowerment and happiness of police officers was confirmed by Spearman correlation test (ρ=0.715; p=0.0001). In addition, all 5 aspects of psychological empowerment had significant correlations with the happiness of police officers that the feeling of trust had the most priority in affecting happiness. Empowerment and happiness were seen in chief officers and managers more than other classes but there was no significant difference in the service records and different educational levels.
Conclusion All 5 dimensions of psychological empowerment have a positive and significant effect on employee happiness. Empowerment and happiness are seen in chief officers and managers more than other classes, but service records and educational levels are not influential.
