ABSTRACT

Aims As a key department in hospitals, Health Information Management has an important role in empowerment of health care services providing. The aim of this study was multidimensional evaluation of Health Information Management in two private military hospitals.
Participants & Methods The present study was a qualitative content analysis research that was conducted in 2016. The data were gathered through semi-structured interviews. Sampling was done through purposive sampling method with most diversity in Health Information Management department subclasses including medical coding, filling, statistics, and admission. Data saturation was obtained after 13 interviews, and at the same time, the data were collected, coded, and analyzed. Also, MAXQDA10 software was used to analyze the data.
Findings The most important problems and solutions in Health Information Management were categorized in 5 main themes and 24 subthemes. Five themes which were referred by the participants included infrastructural and technical, educational, financial, organizational, and human resources problems.
Conclusion Policymakers should take the necessary steps to improve the status of this sector in the areas of infrastructure, educational, financial, organizational, and human resources. Also, with the allocation of special funds, they will provide a platform for the recruitment of specialized personnel for medical records and health information technology.
