Effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy on the Attitude of Abuse and the Quality of Life in Substance Abusers

ABSTRACT
Aims
The present study was performed to investigate the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy on the attitude of abuse and the quality of life in substance abusers.
Materials & Methods This semi-experimental study with pre-test post-test and control group was performed in the last 4 month of 2016 in all addicted male patients were referred to Amol, Iran, addiction treatment centers. A total of 24 addicted patients were selected as samples from the 4 chosen centers in Amol, Iran, using available sampling method. The Addiction Potential Scale and World Health Organization Quality of Life questionnaire (WHOQOL) were used for data collection. Data were analyzed using independence t-test and Multivariate Analysis of Covariance (MANCOVA) in SPSS 21 software.
Findings There was a significant difference effect between experimental and control group in mean scores for quality of life (p<0.001) and addiction potential (p<0.015), after intervention.
Conclusion Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is effective on the attitude of abuse and the quality of life in substance abusers.
