BRIEF TEXT
Quantitative and qualitative analysis of scientific activities of educational and research units helps to identify the research process, the production and growth of knowledge and information in various fields of science and is applicable in various fields [1].
Preparing and publishing articles in scientific journals is one of the most important indicators of research and development of countries. In various cases, scholarly exchanges and scientific communications around the world are studied with the publication of scientific articles in various journals, in order to reveal the rate of production, growth and development of science in each country or discipline [2]. One of the methods for researching the status of research is the use of scientometrics methods that compares the scientific production quantitatively and qualitatively with each other and identifies the status of different organizations in the production of scientific information [2].
Sarem Hospital is a specialized hospital in the field of modern delivery and treatment of infertility and other diseases of women, and is one of the rare private hospitals where research is being pursued vigorously. Therefore, it is necessary to study the progress of scientific activities in this hospital. Accordingly, the following questions are needed to evaluate and answer: How has been the scientific information production process of Sarim Specialized Hospital between 1987 and 2013? How has been the scientific production according to the type of product (book, article, abstract of the conference paper and dissertation) during these years? And how much has the hospital's researchers been involved in research and production of science, individually or in group? Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the scientific production status of researchers at Sarem Hospital in Tehran between 1987 and 2013.
This descriptive study was carried out using a survey.
At first, the list of hospital researchers was prepared during the years of 1987-2013, and then the names of individuals and the hospital were searched separately using a check list at the Google Scholar and Magiran databases (Dedicated site for Persian Publications Database). For books, dissertations and conferences, the research papers of people in the hospital's research center were observed and reviewed. The statistical population of this study included all Persian and English documents of the researchers at Research Center of Sarem Hospital and ISI database in the years 1987-2013. After extracting the data, the amount of scientific information produced each year was obtained from the type of document, namely paper, book, conference and dissertation. To find articles related to the hospital at the mentioned sites, the name of the hospital was searched by the Sarem Medical Center, Sarim Hospital, Sarem Specialty and Advanced Hospital, Sarem Hospital, Sarem Woman's Hospital and Sarem Cell Research Center. The coefficient of team collaboration (CC) of the authors was calculated according to formula. Data were analyzed using SPSS 22 software. The absolute and relative frequency of scientific production was evaluated by the type of product, the year of publication, and the percentage of participation.
During the period from 1987 to 2013, a total of 168 scientific documents were produced by hospital researchers, which comprised 82 articles (48.8%), 12 books (7.1%), 55 abstracts presented at scientific conferences (32.7%), and 19 theses (11.3%). Of the 82 articles produced, 29 were articles were of the year 2012, and this year had the most frequency of the produced articles (Table 1). The most frequent abstracts of the articles presented at the conferences were related to 2013 with a total of 16 abstracts, and the number of books published by researchers at the center was the same in 1996, 1998 and 2003, with the largest number of books of 2 per year. The dissertations were also the most frequent in the years 1997 and 2000 with 3 theses per year. In Sarem Hospital, the process of producing scientific works was fluctuating between 1987 and 2013, so that the number of articles written in different years, had the trend of ascending or descending, and fixed steady in different years. The researchers at the center did not produce a single article in 1989-1991 and 1993-2000, and in 2012, they produced the most articles. The process of publication and translation of the book was almost constant and in the years 1987, 1996, 1998, 2002-2004, 2006, and 2009, the process was the same. Regarding the status of the articles presented at the conferences, it was constant in some years and was on the rise in 1992, 1997 and 2013. The status of dissertations also showed the same trend and the production of this scientific product continued only until 2005 (Fig. 1).The highest number of articles was produced with frequency of 48 (58.5%), among genetic group researchers, and the infertility group was followed by 26 cases (31.7%). The share of researchers in the Department of Women and Laboratories in the production of scientific works was 3 (7.3%) and 2 (2.4%) respectively and 3 (3.7%) were also produced by other groups. Among the researchers at the hospital, Dr. Saremi with 195 cases, and Dr. Shaftaqi with 16 cases had the most role in science production. Group participation for science production in all years, except 1991-1991, had a higher frequency than individual activities (Figure 2). The team's co-operation rate was 0.72.
Since research in each research center is designed based on the needs of that center, the growth rate in the number and quality of scientific production can indicate the progress of the center in addressing the concerns and related needs. In this study, Sarem Hospital was as one of the private center specializing in research and development was evaluated. The results of this study indicate the development of the center from 1987 to 2013. According to previous studies, including studies by Azami [3], Bazrafshan and Mostafavi [4], and Abde Khoda et al. [5], validated databases such as ISI and Google Scholar were used to collect the required data for the study. The total number of scientific documents from 1987 to 2013 was 168 for Saram Hospital, which is a significant figure for a private health center. During this period, 82 scientific articles have been published in Iranian or international journals. 55 abstracts have been presented at scientific conferences, which have been remarkable, indicating interest in research and planning at the center. According to the findings of this study, most scientific publications were of research type. A significant part of these products is related to recent years, and the team's co-authorship ratio (72%) indicates that most of the activities in this center are performed in a group work. Also, the participation of this private center with university centers and the implementation of the dissertation research project was appropriate until 2003, that the report suggests that the center has not cooperated with academic centers in the next years. In addition, Sarem Hospital seems to have produced a significant number of books as a private center. Considering the fact that the periodic and multi-year assessment of scientific centers shows the strengths and weaknesses of these centers and improves the quality of the scientific structure, this study showed the strengths and weaknesses of Sarim Hospital in its scientific production in the past years, and its report will improve managerial decisions for the quantitative and qualitative upgrade of the scientific products of the hospital in the coming years.
Scientific production of Sarem Hospital has been increasing in recent years. Most of the works produced in this hospital are of the type of research papers. The team co-operation rate among researchers at Sarem Hospital is high in the production of works.
