BRIEF TEXT

… [1]. The real wealth of each society is qualified human resources nurtured in well-balanced families.

[3]. Resilience refers to the positive adapting to sad experiences [4]. Conner and Davidson believe that resilience is one's ability to make a psychological balance in dangerous situations. ... [6-9]. Differentiation is the most important concept of family systems theory and indicates the extent to which one is able to distinguish between rational and emotional processes [10]. Differentiated individuals experience less psychological vulnerability and the quality of their relationships with family members will increase and play an important role in the family members' experience of stress [11]. ... [12-20]. Health-promoting lifestyle is one of the determinants of health [21]. ... [22-25]. It has suggests that people's lifestyle choices and patterns influence their health and life span [26]. The following studies have been done on lifestyle: Omidy Rad and Hekmat [27], Rastegar et al. [28], Keikhosravi [29] and Ibrahim Babaei et al. [30]. … [31-32].

The purpose of this study was to compare the resilience, self-differentiation and health-promoting lifestyle in children of chemical and non-chemical veterans, freedmen, and normal people.

This research was a descriptive causal-comparative study.

The statistical population was children of chemical veterans (49-70% injury), non-chemical veterans (49-70% injury), normal people and freedmen aged 20-30 years in Sardasht city in 2017-18.

The sample consisted of 259 people selected by purposeful sampling based on Morgan table; 80 children of chemical veterans, 80 children of non-chemical veterans, 80 children of normal people and 19 children of freedmen.

Data collection tools included Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale [5, 33], Self-Differentiation Questionnaire [18], and Health promoting lifestyle profile (HPLP II) developed by Walker et al [22]. Data were analyzed by SPSS 23 software. One-way ANOVA and Tukey's post hoc tests were used to compare the means of the groups and multivariate analysis of variance was used to compare the components. It should be noted that the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used to check the normal distribution of the data.

With 99% confidence, the mean scores of resilience, differentiation, and health-promoting lifestyle were significantly different between the four groups (Table 1).In pairwise comparison, there was a significant difference between the children of normal people and those of chemical and non-chemical veterans and freedmen, but no significant difference was found between the otAlso, there was a significant difference between the components of self-differentiation, including reactivity, I-position, emotional cutoff, and fusion with others, and also health-promoting lifestyle components, including nutrition, exercise, responsibility, stress management, interpersonal support, and self-actualization in four groups, which due to high mean score of the normal group it is in favor of the normal group (Table 3).her groups (Table 2).

… [34, 35]. The results showed that, with 99% confidence, the level of differentiation was different in the children of the normal people, chemical and the non-chemical veterans, and the freedmen. The results of post-hoc test indicated that a significant difference between the normal-chemical, normal-non-chemical, and normal-freedmen groups; which means that the differentiation in children of normal people was greater than in other groups. These results are partly in line with the results of Abbasi Dadgar & Alikhani study [20]. ... [36-40]. The results of the post-hoc test indicated a significant difference between the children of normal-chemical, normal-non-chemical, and normal-freedmen groups; which means that the health-promoting lifestyle of the children in normal subjects was higher than the other groups. The results are partly consistent with those of Omidy Rad & Hekmat [27], Rastegar et al. [28], Keikhosravi [29], and Ibrahim Babaei et al. [30]. In this regard, Ibrahim Babaei et al. [30] in a study comparing health-promoting lifestyle in people with HIV and non-HIV positive people in Tehran showed a difference between the two groups in lifestyle. ... [41].

It is recommended to conduct a study using other geographical area and statistical population and compare the obtained results with the results of this study.

The present study faced limitations, such as sampling method (convenience sampling) and non-generalizability of findings to ethnic groups and other parts of the country.

Resilience, self-differentiation, and health-promoting lifestyles were higher in the children of normal people, non-chemical veterans, and freedmen.

We would like to thank all the families who participated in this study.
